With unparalleled attention to craft, BLT completed a 10,500 SF addition to a home in suburban Gladwyne, Pennsylvania consisting of two distinct parts: an extension of the original house and an attached pool pavilion. The style of the extension mimics the language of the existing house exactly for continuity. A new corridor cut through the existing house connects the original entry hall with a new subsidiary entry vestibule for separate access to the pool and guest suite.

The use of a heavy timber structure of wood recycled from an old barn and wood framed glass walls establishes a new vocabulary for the pool pavilion, creating a distinct identity while still blending with the existing house. The pool lies in a soaring double height space allowing a bar, exercise room, changing rooms, and a mechanical space to be tucked underneath the guest suite. A glass wall meanders through the tree-like forms of the structure creating an intermediary space where interior and exterior merge.

A consistent materials palette of shingles and stone binds the two pieces of the composition together.
