Boyd Gaming/MGM Mirage invited BLT to propose on the largest casino project ever undertaken in Atlantic City, New Jersey with a platinum one billion dollar price tag. Because of the grand scale of the project, BLT approached the joint venture they had formed in 1979 with Cope Linder Associates (BLT/CLA Joint Venture Architects) to complete the assignment.
The new facility brings a sophisticated and unparalleled dimension to gaming for visitors at this premier resort. The scope included a complete entertainment complex with 2,002 guest rooms and suites, 125,000 SF of gaming space and a variety of other first-class resort and guest amenities including 11 restaurants, 11 retail outlets, a 50,000 SF European health spa, a 1,000-seat performance theater, a nightclub, 70,000 SF of event space and a 5,500-car garage.
The success of The Borgata has led to subsequent commissions including a 350,000 SF expansion and The Water Club, a new 40-story glass hotel tower featuring four unique pools.
