BLT has maintained a presence on campus since 1998, seeing the University through its largest building boom in more than three decades, having completed over a dozen various commissions. BLT reached out to Payette to form a joint venture, taking advantage of the complementary experience and geographic location of each firm. BLT/Payette Joint Venture Architects completed the new "Gateway to the Sciences" comprised of the 195,000 SF Chemistry Building and the 150,000 SF Life Sciences Building.
For the new 214,000 SF Smeal College of Business (the largest academic building at University Park), and the 420,800 SF, seven-level Parking Deck/18,600 SF Central Chiller Plant (the unique integration of two distinct building types), BLT performed full Architectural/Engineering services forging a relationship with Robert A.M. Stern Architects as Associate Architects, to provide Penn State with an unparalleled team to fulfill the University’s vision.
Complementing the success of these collaborations, BLT then led the complete design efforts for the new 96,000 SF School of Forest Resources laboratory and classroom building, and is currently leading the conversion of the 1931 Borland Laboratory building for new use by the College of Arts and Architecture.
