The former 1925 Insurance Company of North America
headquarters, a Georgian-revival 20-story highrise designed by Stewardson & Page, has been transformed
into a luxury apartment complex. Differentiated from the dumbbell shape
of the residential floors above, the granite rectangle footprint of the bottom
four floors features a mix of amenities and commercial space, including a
sky lit gym, The Phoenix Club, a secluded conference and office suite, and
a Starbucks.
In the southeast corner of the first floor is Tir na Nog, a 300-seat multi-level Irish pub theme restaurant with two bars traversing the south side of the two-story central atrium and around the east elevator core, spilling out, beer garden style, into the grand historic east lobby. On the north side of the atrium, BLT has designed a 2,790 SF branch office for the Philadelphia Federal Credit Union. A dramatically angled teller line and arched service counter provide visibility and easy customer flow from entrances at the atrium and the Arch Street retail vestibule. Stone floor tile and carpet combine with cherry and glass wall panels and furnishings to create an understated elegance.
