Philadelphia Marriott Expansion at Reading Terminal Headhouse

Philadelphia’s convention center hotel occupies the entire 1200 block of Market Street and serves as the symbolic front door to the city from the Convention Center.  The 1,200-room hotel provides a full range of hospitality services including restaurants, a health/fitness center, and various-sized ballrooms and pre-function areas for meetings, convention activities, and other public and private events.  The Lobby Bar is the centerpiece of the hotel lobby and four-story glass atrium featuring a water sculpture by Philadelphia artist Jim Lloyd.  The decorative ceilings and finishes were designed to enhance the acoustics of this very public space, allowing for receptions, small business, or social gatherings.  A smaller, more intimate space provides a more traditional bar experience adjacent to the lobby and also provides overflow dining for J.W’s Steakhouse.

Additionally, the top level of the hotel’s garage is convertible for use in accommodating major exhibitions.  Connected to the Market East Transportation Center via a skybridge to the historic Reading Terminal, the hotel also supports street front retail to enliven the urban environment envisioned in the master plan for redevelopment of the city’s commercial district east of City Hall.
