A three-story addition to the existing 1913 School House provides the Haverford Friends School with four additional classrooms, a computer lab and cafeteria. The addition is situated between the School House and the Friends Meeting House to increase the spatial definition of the entry courtyard. The building harmonizes with the simple dignity of the historic buildings expressed in simple forms, hipped roofs, and stucco walls. A curved bay window fits within the overall language of the existing buildings but distinguishes the building as a unique addition to the historic campus.
Renovation of the existing building increased the average classroom size as required by contemporary teaching practice. The technology infrastructure was upgraded, fire sprinklers were installed, the heating system was replaced, and the building was remodeled to provide full accessibility for the disabled.
