Boeing Helicopter’s Research and Development and Manufacturing Facility south of the Philadelphia International Airport was expanded through the addition of a 200,000 SF administration building interconnected with existing facilities to form a complex of executive, administrative, and research office space.  Private offices and shared support facilities are organized at the center of each floor, with open plan workstations at the perimeter.  Fire stairs are located on the exterior to avoid interruption of the interior space flow.  Systems furniture accommodating 1,200 people is geared to provide maximum flexibility and group interaction.

The “flagship” character of the facility is emphasized by an exterior skin of metal panels and glass with the articulation of each facade responding to its orientation.  The sharply delineated lines of the metal panel enclosure are due to open joints between panels required by the pressurized rain screen system, the most sophisticated and high performance type of curtain wall construction.  The resulting building speaks to the sophisticated technological nature of Boeing’s business and provides a signature identity for the company while accommodating the flexibility and efficiency required by contemporary business operations.
