Thinking outside the bolt
A reminder to think outside the box (or in this case, the bolt)…
This image is from a tour I took this week at InterfaceFLOR’s carpet mill in Georgia, showing their innovative “portable creel” system. This new system was developed in 1998 by employee Billy Ingram, who saw fault in the typical bolt system most carpet mills were using. He built a prototype with parts from Wal-Mart, and ended up creating a system InterfaceFLOR still uses today, saving the company and the environment up to 54% in waste yarn. My take-away: just because it’s always been done one way, doesn’t mean it can’t be done better! – Fay Leff, Interior Designer
