Description

The URCF is a brand new, state of the art facility on the 4th Floor of Curtis Hall for researchers to co-locate their research computers or take advantage of the high capacity Proteus cluster housed there. This centrally-supported and managed facility allows researchers to conduct research computing in a secure, environmentally controlled, centrally managed facility. The renovation was a challenging effort, converting an unused rifle practice space to its new use, with masonry repairs, new roof construction, mechanical equipment and finishes. The high efficiency air conditioning units are fit between the data racks to provide localized cooling that is fine-tuned to the demands of the computing equipment. Creating a vertical path for the new elevator required careful work within adjacent academic spaces, and the power demands required a whole new substation at the lower level of Curtis Hall.
