Description

The feasibility study began with analysis of space program needs for the expanding Coastal Ocean Observation Lab (COOL) and Fisheries Cluster research. An initial study compared four options for the program, including renovation of a vacant structure, addition to their existing facility, a new building on a new site and a combination approach. The analysis, along with detailed
site assessments led to a concept scheme that created two new additions off the existing main department building.
This solution provided for the best integration of research, teaching and outreach across the entire department. A smaller new structure with direct access to the service road will address the departments specialized research needs.
The other new structure is designed to be the new public face of the department, fronting a new quad. It will house general purpose classrooms, typical labs, faculty and graduate student offices, and a dynamic COOL Video Room for monitoring of the AUV’s around the world.
