- Description
As the preliminary phase of Falvey Library’s new master plan, this renovation transforms an open stacks area on the second floor into a new learning environment, creating spaces for study, tutoring and research. By bringing together four separate programs currently scattered around Villanova’s campus, this shared facility will provide library research support, tutoring programs for math and writing and house the learning support services office, which provides study skills resources, academic coaching and support for special needs students.
Based on a ‘learning commons’ philosophy, the design is developed around a shared ‘street’ concept that exposes users to all of the academic support resources the University offers. Each program is provided its own dedicated office and work spaces that open onto a commodious corridor that doubles as lounge and break-out space. Arranged around the building perimeter, these spaces have large windows for ample daylight and views. The interior of the square floor plan is given over to shared classrooms, conference spaces and test proctoring rooms.
