The desire was to establish theĀ ambianceĀ of a traditional college campus where there had been none. The building is situated on a tight site between a new campus quad and a commuter parking lot. The new two-and-a-half-story building is zoned to allow for simultaneous public and student use. Serving both collegiate athletic and intramural recreation needs, features include a 1,000 seat event gymnasium, separate recreation gymnasium, natatorium with three lap lanes and space for recreational water activities, weight and fitness areas, and a track extended over the recreation gymnasium.

Supplementing these uses are miscellaneous student gathering spaces including a cafe, games and lounge areas, and administrative space.
