- Description
This new component to the university’s existing central chilled water system and serves both existing and future on-campus facilities. Future construction plans include a number of academic buildings, a structured parking deck, and ancillary buildings. This first phase of the chiller plant has a capacity of 7,500 tons (9,000 tons installed). The anticipated full build-out will be a 15,000 ton capacity. Because the chiller plant is located amongst academic and research facilities, its design utilizes prevalent campus materials (local Hokie stone, precast concrete) and is configured, articulated, and detailed to ameliorate the building’s mass as well as to better integrate into the campus context.
